More Than an Inmate is being built by a growing team of advocates, researchers, creators, and community members who believe the criminal justice system must evolve toward fairness, accountability, and rehabilitation. Our work brings together people with diverse backgrounds—including family members of incarcerated individuals, formerly incarcerated voices, legal researchers, writers, and community organizers—who are united by a shared commitment to reform.

At the center of this organization is the belief that the people closest to the problem must be part of the solution. Many members of our team have firsthand experience navigating the realities of incarceration, whether through personal experience or through supporting loved ones behind bars. This perspective gives our work both urgency and authenticity. We are not speaking about these issues from a distance—we are living them, studying them, and working daily to change them.

Our team is actively building partnerships with authors, advocates, legal thinkers, and community leaders who are committed to raising awareness about issues like felony murder laws, long-term solitary confinement, and the barriers that incarcerated individuals face when seeking rehabilitation. Through research, storytelling, publishing, and public education, we aim to amplify voices that are too often unheard.

More Than an Inmate is also supported by a network of volunteers and collaborators who contribute their time, skills, and insight to advance the mission. From writers and researchers to digital creators and outreach organizers, every member of the team plays a role in helping us expand awareness and push meaningful reform forward.
This organization is still growing—and intentionally so. As the movement expands, we continue to bring in new voices who are passionate about justice, reform, and building a system that values human dignity and second chances.
